You will love how quick and inexpensive this red, white, and blue DIY vintage banner is! It feels vintage without the vintage price.

I love to celebrate my country and remember those men and women who fight to keep it free. I’ve seen absolutely beautiful, antique long banners from WWII on Etsy. I loved the look, but they can cost hundreds of dollars.

I found a few resources that I think you will love, to recreate this banner. It’s 20 ft long, and you could even combine multiple banners to create a really stunning piece. So it ended up costing me $35 for one banner. I bought two of each fabric to do two full banners, and I got free shipping for spending over $49.

How To Make DIY Vintage Banner

Sources

First, I sourced out red, white, and blue fabric. I found the best price online to be at tableclothsfactory.com, and they shipped very quickly.

The fabric is a gauzy material which lends to the vintage look, as older fabrics are threadbare.

This is the exact blue fabric I chose, I love that it’s not vibrant blue but more dusty, so it feels antique.

Here’s the red fabric. It’s the terracotta rust color.

And finally the white fabric. I went with Ivory.

Try a few of these promo codes for discounts to get the best deal. They also regularly have a 10% coupon on their website, and I’ve even seen a 20% off:

Assembly

The next step is quick and easy with a sewing machine. Just sew the fabrics together using white thread, overlapping the side seams. Make sure the white is in the middle. And that’s it! Let me know if you have any questions, and I would love to see your results of this DIY vintage banner if you make this.

You could also opt to not sew them. Just by draping them together, it gives it the look, and you could use the fabrics for other purposes in different seasons and holidays.

I’m so excited to use this banner in a variety of places for years to come. I can imagine swooped buntings down the stairs, and the banner draping on our old barn. PIN this image to save it!

Could you use fabric glue if you don’t have a sewing machine?

I’m not sure how well that would hold if you’re using it outside. Mine really got whipped by the wind. It’s a thin material so the glue may bleed as well. But if you give it a try, let me know how it goes! Thanks!
