This simple dining table is brought together with a potted lavender centerpiece, perfect for Easter and Spring. This look is classic and versatile for all season.

Family dinner is my favorite way to bring everyone together at the end of the day. Now I wish I could say it’s always peaceful and everyone pleasantly visits while enjoying delicious food…but of course, it’s usually not. With six children, its often chaotic, loud, and a little more teasing happens than ought to.
But sometimes…
The family sits around the dining table. We talk about our day. We laugh together. One story leads to another. And nobody wants to leave.
Those are the family dinners worth fighting for!
I’ve found that adding a few simple elements can make the feel of family dinner just a little more special.

Spring and Easter Centerpiece
Most of the food, we serve buffet style on the kitchen counter, but I love placing a special treat on the table for us to enjoy at the end of the meal. I added height by placing these delicious carrot cake cupcakes on a wooden cake platter surrounding a potted lavender plant. This lavender plant not only smells amazing, but lends a natural, casual feel to the table setting. I’ve potted it in a terracotta pot which I whitewashed with watered down white paint to help give it patina and create a beautiful east centerpiece.

Classic Decor Elements
Candles are a staple that belong on every dining table. I have the best memories of Sunday dinner at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. I would help set the table, and Grandma would be sure to have me put out the candles. The ambiance they created, made our meal feel much more special.
I opted to tie a blue ribbon around the neck of each brass candlestick, a favorite thrift store find. Changing the ribbon color is an easy way to keep the candlesticks relevant to any holiday and any season.
I also added a few shorter pillar candles, quite honestly because I found them when going through our emergency supplies a few weeks ago. They made it to the dining table, and I thought they added another layer of height.

Vintage Pieces With History
Perhaps my favorite items on our spring and Easter dining table are the green ironstone plates at the heads of the table. I inherited these from my Grandma Betty.
My mom shared with me that “grocery stores had these plates and matching dinnerware at the end of rows to tempt shopping housewives. Shoppers could collect S&H Green Stamps that were distributed based on the amount of their purchase and save up stamps to redeem them for the dinnerware.”
My grandma didn’t collect stamps, but she did buy the plates for cash, probably around 1960. I love having a generational family piece joining our family dinners.

Easter Table Decor
A simple Easter element I added are the blue porcelain bunnies peeking out from the greenery. They coordinate with the blue and white easter egg table runner. I’ve folded the napkins to look like little nests, all helping it feel like Easter in a classic, elevated way.

Simple Table Foundational Pieces
Of course, a few foundational pieces are needed for any dining table such as quality solid silverware and pretty white plates. My faux eucalyptus greenery looks so realistic and beautifully drapes down the table.
I hope you feel inspired by my spring and easter dining table centerpiece, and want to make a meal, perhaps Easter dinner, more special by creating a space where your family will want to eat, laugh, and linger.
